Create a Park

In 2003 I went to a Spray Lakes Sawmills workshop to express my concern that logging Kananaskis would have a negative impact on tourism and therefore on the Bragg Creek economy. Since then, a group of us have expressed concern about the impact on Calgary's water, on the environment, wildlife and people's recreational enjoyment of a highly valued natural area 1/2 hour from Calgary.

Over the years we have run a slew of campaigns; letter writing, petitions, Tag-A-Tree, media releases, protest marches, meetings, a couple of web sites, a Facebook group, e-mail campaigns, mail-outs, surveys, public appearances; everything we could think of - all to no avail.

Sending your vote for a park through this form will keep up the pressure to change government policy. We think logging Kananaskis is wrong and we have an obligation to oppose it.

What do you think?

When you enter your name, e-mail address and your vote in this form, a copy will be sent to us. We'll collect the votes and send them to Cindy Ady, Minister of Tourism, Parks & Recreation and to Ted Morton, Minister of Sustainable Resource Development.

The Provincial Recreation Area draft management plan, released June 11, 2008, calls for creation of 8 small Provincial Parks in the Elbow Valley. How small? We estimate they are less than 1% of north-eastern Kananaskis; the area we would like to have designated as parkland. That's not good enough!

Send us your vote and we'll forward it to government officials.
